Cisco has announced the release of their newest generation of servers, the 7th generation of UCS C-Series and X-Series servers, powered by 4th Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors. These servers are designed to provide greater flexibility and improved performance for modern workloads, such as artificial intelligence and data analytics. Additionally, the servers support the Intel Data Center GPU Flex Series, allowing for application acceleration.

According to Cisco, the new servers address two primary concerns facing IT organizations today. The first is the need for modernized infrastructure to support increasingly dynamic enterprise workloads, and the second is the increasing scrutiny of IT organizations to be more sustainable in their operations through energy-efficient infrastructure and advanced monitoring and management systems.

The new servers, along with the simplified IT operations made possible by Cisco Intersight, help customers solve these issues by providing more options across the UCS portfolio and taking advantage of the future-ready and modular architecture of the UCS X-Series.

The UCS X-Series consists of a blade chassis and the compute nodes within. The Cisco UCS X chassis is a midplane-free chassis. The compute nodes are inserted through the front in a vertical fashion where they connect to I/O connectivity modules (horizontally oriented) in the rear. The chassis is 7U in size and has eight slots for a variety of nodes. The entire system is cloud-managed and highly flexible.

Cisco UCS X-Series

With support for the latest intel processors, Cisco has launched two new blades for the X-Series, the Cisco UCS X210c M7 Compute Node and Cisco UCS X410c M7 Compute Node.

Cisco UCS X210c M7 Compute Node

The Cisco UCS X210c M7 Compute Node features up to 2x 4th Gen Intel Xeon Scalable Processors with up to 60 cores per processor and up to 8TB of main memory, as well as up to 6 hot-pluggable SSDs and two M.2 drives with optional hardware RAID.

Note: Drives require a RAID or passthrough controller in the front mezzanine module slot.

Cisco UCS X410c M7 Compute Node

The Cisco UCS X410c M7 Compute Node is the first 4-socket 4th Gen Intel Xeon Scalable Processors computing device to integrate into the Cisco UCS X-Series Modular System. It offers high performance and efficiency gains for a wide range of mission-critical enterprise applications, memory-intensive applications, and bare-metal and virtualized workloads.

The server features four 4th Gen Intel Xeon Scalable Processors with up to 60 cores per processor and up to 16TB of main memory, as well as up to 6 hot-pluggable SSDs and two M.2 slots with optional hardware RAID.

Both nodes include an optional front mezzanine GPU module, mLOM virtual interface cards, and an optional mezzanine card for X-Fabric technology. The server also provides security features such as an optional trusted platform module (TPM), secure boot FPGA, and ACT2 anti-counterfeit provisions.

The Cisco UCS C220 M7 Rack Server is a high-density, 1RU, 2-socket rack server that supports 4th Gen Intel Xeon Scalable CPUs, with up to 52 cores per socket, up to 32 DDR5 DIMMs for up to 4 TB of capacity, up to 3 PCIe 4.0 slots or up to 2 PCIe 5.0 slots, and supports Cisco UCS VIC 15000 Series adapters. Additionally, It has options for SAS/SATA or NVMe drives and M.2 boot options and supports up to three GPUs.

The Cisco UCS C240 M7 Rack Server is a two-socket, 2RU form factor server designed for mainstream business applications and use cases. It's much like the C220, but with the extra space, there are more options for expansion. The C240 also has backplane options with support for up to 28 NVMe SSDs, though support is limited to Gen4 x2 at the moment. The system has support for up to 8 PCIe 4.0 slots or up to 4 PCIe 5.0 slots and 5 GPUs are supported.
